The Team at WestCoastAD based in Victoria BC is committed to offereing accurate information and consultation when medical assistance in dying (MAID) is requested.

 

Our Committment is to provide compassionate and timely care and support.

 

This Service is legal in Canada, for Canadian residents.

Who is eligible for Medical Assistance in Dying (M.A.I.D)?

 

  • Be eligible for health services funded by the federal or provincial government

  • Be at least 18 years old and mentally capable

  • Have a grievous and irremediable medical condition (serious illness, disease or disability)

  • Be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed

  • Be suffering unbearably from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline

  • Be at a point where your natural death has become reasonably foreseeable, which takes into account all of your medical circumstances

  • Make the request for MAID without outside pressure or influence, and provide informed consent

 

Doctors in B.C. must abide by the standards set out by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC Guidelines.

 

 

Dr. Konia J. Trouton

 

 

Dr. Konia Trouton is a family physician on Vancouver Island. She has been involved in social justice aspects of health care since medical school in the 1980s, and she welcomes the legislation from Canada on physician-assisted death.

 

Dr. Trouton is a founder and member of West Coast Assisted Dying, a healthcare team that is committed to offering accurate information and consultation when medical assistance in dying (MAID) is requested.
